Every two years, Elsevier commissions Pearldrop to travel all over the UK to film compelling interviews with the winners of the prestigious SCOPUS ECR UK Awards. The Scopus Awards are all about the communication of scientific ideas, and Pearldrop's job is to create a series of films that bring the winners' stories to life in an imaginative way.
One vital element of these films is to make sure the research is understood by the viewer. Every year we’re astounded by the range and calibre of research being carried out in the UK.
For each set of awards, we created a unique animated title sequence that appears at the start of each film.
We interviewed each of the six winners at their universities, usually in their lab or research environments. We mixed the interview footage with plenty of interesting supporting footage (called "b-roll" in the industry). We combined this with some overlayed 3D graphics to call out interesting facets of the winners' work.
