Logline

Logline

It’s summertime. The sun is shining. It’s barbecue season. And it’s Film Term Friday. Putting all these factors together, we conclude that this week’s film term can only be: logline.

The logline is a punchy one- or two-sentence description of a film or tv show. It’s used to help sell the script to potential producers and broadcasters. Without a great logline, you’re extremely unlikely to get your script picked up.

Can you guess the movies below, just by reading their loglines?

1. A seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic.

2. After a bachelor party in Las Vegas, three friends with no memory of the previous night wake up to find the bachelor missing, consequently seeking to find their friend before his wedding.

3. Several historical events from the 20th Century unfold from the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75, whose only real desire is to reunite with his childhood sweetheart.

4. A young man is transported to the past, where he must reunite his parents before he and his future cease to exist.

5. The lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster’s wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption.
